Me at the Simatai portion of the Great Wall of China, near Beijing

I’m Morgan, a 22-year-old California native and recent Harvard University graduate (class of 2010) who has thrown caution to the wind and decided to move to China after only studying the language for one year. I spent the summer of 2010 studying my second “year” of Chinese in Beijing at a Harvard summer school program. In August, I relocated to Shanghai, where I currently live with my boyfriend of two years, Rick Menchaca, who studied Chinese for four years at Harvard.

This blog is a chronicle of my experiences in China, but it also contains my reflections about graduating, entering the working world, living abroad, and growing up. My parents read this, so you won’t get anything too juicy, but what you will get is honest.

Feel free to get in touch with me at I am more than happy to personally correspond with any readers.
